Mission

FR8Star is a startup committed to improving the freight industry with cloud-based tools. Along with its features, there are shipment localization and scheduling optimization.

Impact

Its impact relies on making shipping easy. As a result, FR8 leads an online marketplace with a trustworthy network of transport companies. Its focus is on providing easy access to transporting companies and oversize loads.

Services

The company contacted Capicua to build its next-generation application. Among its needs were a full-stack development and a renewed front-end with an updated UI. Yet, a specific request was to work with ReactJS, an emerging tech at the time.

Goal

FR8 goal was to create a new structure that allowed them to uplift their clients’ global experience.

Story

The enterprise was founded in San Francisco back in 2015. Its main goal was to reduce inefficiencies that cost $700B to the trucking market. Because of this, the industry experienced revenue losses, pollution increases, and poor working conditions for its 3.5M drivers.

Its online application makes fleet management hassle-free. Furthermore, it allows companies to know the available capacity of the freight truck routes. Also, it provides the opportunity of selling this service to shippers. With this, the venture can perform innovative industry-related solutions.

Challenges

The venture had three general requests. These were a UI with reusable components, a UX-friendly app, and integrations with Google Maps and Street View. The design needed to show complex info and tools while being easy to use. So, a considerable challenge was taking all formats into account.

Since FR8 is a SaaS, it was also relevant that its app was cloud-connected. APIs have different speed rates, so we needed to build an intermediary between the front-end and the back-end and APIs.

Capicua’s goal was to include every company-related item alongside its values and services in a next-gen online application.

Worth Mentioning

The trucking industry was suffering revenue losses in a $700B market. With this considerable disadvantage, Capiuca built FR8’s first MPV and some iterations. After that, Volkswagen invested $10M in that seed.

Technology

Our team combined ReactJS with MobX for state management. To ensure the display of all elements at the same rate, we developed a specific NodeJS layer. Also, we used AXIOS for the call wrappers and AZURE’s cloud computing platform. Capicua built a Material UI design that offers clean and intuitive user interactions. We applied quick filters and search options, allowing users to find information quickly. We worked with CSS and LOSTGRID to improve responsiveness.

We also provided convenient access to details. Now, screens are split into two sections: data tables and rows. This panel is now fixed on the screen’s bottom, regardless of screen size and resolution. As a result, it’s always available for users to select their specific preferences. Besides, we deleted the need to access an edit mode to save data. For instance, if users cancel editing, its info returns to its original state. Besides, we add infinite scrolling to different tables within the app. With this addition, users don’t have to page down to get more info.
