In 2011, Jon Cartwright and Ryan Spong realized there was no correlation between office desk lunches and nearby restaurants.
They noted that restaurants often closed due to a lack of customers. Meanwhile, office workers mostly ate unhealthy fast-food lunches.
Chewse was born with the aim of promoting local gastronomy and providing healthy food for offices and has delivered over 10M office catering meals.
What’s more, it expanded its services to over ten major cities across the US and Canada.
Chewse’s team wanted their custom-built app to match the brand’s look and feel.
Due to this request, our UX Design team travelled to San Francisco.
We submerged in several intensive Design Sprints that allowed us to deliver top-tier results.
Worth Mentioning: Our team professionalized Chewse dev lifecycles and software maturity. With our strategic, smart work, we prepared Chewse for a successful acquisition just before COVID-19 hit.
While Chewse was using third-party software for its operations, we automated its processes with customized tools.
The venture also requested an extra app for their processes automatization.
A specific requirement of this project was to use the Vue framework.
We blended Vue.js with Django and PostgreSQL’s database.
Also, we worked with Vuetify —a library based on Material UI— for UI stylings.
This stack allowed us to achieve a consistent, functional and recognizable style.
"They’re incredible to work with. Their communication is excellent, and they’ve met us a couple of times. They’re heavily involved and make themselves part of our team." — Kash Mathur, Chewse's COO
Once Chewse connects with a new provider, it inputs all menu items into its system.
Each item has unique distinctions that need a follow-up, like potential allergens and styles of cuisine.
Since these particularities are relevant when tracking dietary requirements, we placed several validation points into the app.
With that same mindset, we integrated the menu app’s logic with menu scheduling.
For a more efficient process, we created a tool that allows Chewse to upload menu items in CSV format.
It simplifies an exhausting task and improves communications between the company, restaurants and final users.
